Inside: A collection of podcast episodes that pair with Beyond the Surface, a free PD email course for art teachers.
When students connect with artworks, the art becomes a part of them—shaping who they are in life. But how do you get students to connect when there’s not enough time, you don’t know enough about the artwork, and your students have nothing to say?
Beyond the Surface is a FREE email series starting March 22, 2021 all about how to overcome these challenges and get students to connect with works of art in a way they’ll remember and admins will love.

Today’s Podcast and assignment was very interesting and resonated a great deal to me. It also validated my way of teaching some of my art classes. For every project that I have my students work on, I first make a slide show for us to go over. In the slides, I include an artist, pictures of their works, and our project goals. While we are watching/going over the slide show, I ask those three questions so that my students can try to fully engage in the lesson. We talk a great deal about the work and what they can use from the works to bring about their own projects. I feel that this is a wonderful way to show the students great artist, their works of art and to hopefully fully engage them on art.

Thanks for sharing your voice! This sounds like a wonderful way to engage the students in the artworks. Hope you gain more tools for engaging the students in different ways this week!

Thank you so much for this wonderful experience. I really appreciate the encouragement to add more Art connections in my classroom. Can’t wait to start next week after our Spring Break!
Is there a way to have an official certificate of some kind to show our administrators about this program? I really would like to share some of this information with her. Thanks again!
